  • Descrição: This exploratory article adopts systemic thinking and promotes a critique of the Cartesian-reductionist paradigm that still guides the various areas of scientific knowledge, to address the concepts of the right to development, development as freedom, sustainable development and the "tripod" of sustainability. Through the deductive method, based on bibliographic analysis and review, the study aims to present the ideas of sustainable development and sustainability, under the auspices of the systemic vision, besides promoting an analysis of the concept of development as freedom, inserted in the historical evolution of Human rights. Finally, these themes are correlated to demonstrate the need for a new look at understanding the concepts of freedom, sustainable development, sustainability and human rights, through new paradigms.
