  • Descrição: The tension created in the experience of moving between inside and outside is an experience that can be understood by all people. The moment we were born into the world we experienced the drama of leaving the inside of the womb and arriving outside into the world. Architecture is always re-creating that same experience of moving between inside and outside, private and public. However, it is the sensitivity and control of this sequence and the role of the threshold in this sequence that I hope to understand and reveal in writing this thesis. The thesis explores the significance of territories, boundaries, and the place of transition for the making of entrances in domestic buildings. This line of enquiry has been developed by researching ideas about entrances and entrance sequences, which contributed toward a further analysis of case studies of three domestic buildings in Brisbane. The analysis was carried out, experientially, with a critical appraisal of the entrance sequences. The analysis aims to observe the main spaces and elements of an entrance sequence in order to reveal the making of a sequence of thresholds between inside and outside. The thesis presents a future opportunity to propose a "pattern" for entry sequences in sub- tropical Queensland, based on chapters from "A Pattern Language" by Christopher Alexander. Source: TROVE
