  • Descrição: The article explores the ways Brecht's drama and the world-transforming impulse behind his strategies of defamiliarisation speak to times and places other than his own. Its focus is Brazil where Brecht's suppression after the rightist military coup of 1964 was living testimony to his relevance, and where, with the triumph of capital in the 1980s, plays like "Saint Joan of the Stockyards" had special resonance. In the changed situation today the play retains its power to shadow the movements of history in the present. (Quotes from original text)
