  • Descrição: A set of animated GIF files visualizing the urban growth of 35 U.S. cities from 1900 to 2015, based on the HISDAC-US dataset (Leyk & Uhl 2018, Uhl et al. 2021). The animations show: (a) the total (cumulative) built-up area per year (hisdac_us_builtup_areas_1900_2015.gif), (b) the newly developed areas per time period (rolling window of 30 years) (hisdac_us_newly_developed_areas_1900_2015.gif), and (c) the density of buildings per year (hisdac_us_building_density_1900_2015.gif). Animations were created by Johannes H. Uhl (University of Colorado Boulder, USA) in Python 3.8 (GDAL, GeoPandas, NumPy, PIL). Animations are part of a supplementary movie to Uhl et al. (2021), available at https://doi.org/10.5446/48115. References: Leyk, S., & Uhl, J. H. (2018). HISDAC-US, historical settlement data compilation for the conterminous United States over 200 years.
