  • Descrição: Terbium(III) binds to nucleic acids and acts as an acceptor of electronic excitation energy. The transfer appears to be primarily from guanosine residues. Fluorescence from Tb 3+ bound to 5′-GMP is very much larger than fluorescence from either free 5′-GMP or free Tb 3+ When bound to 5′-AMP, Tb 3+ shows an intense excitation band at 414 nm, where free Tb 3+ has no excitation band. Fluorescence from bound Tb 3+ appears to be potentially useful in nucleic acid studies.
