  • Descrição: With the purpose of recycling waste from construction works, Recycling Plants (RP) reduce the environmental impact of civil construction industry. Thus, this paper discusses role of RP's in the promotion of environmental variable in the management of construction wastes. For that, a case study methodology was used in seven RP located in the region of Sao Paulo, as well as interviews with RP managers. The President of the Brazilian Association for Recycling of Civil Construction and Demolition Waste, and experienced engineers in civil works were also interviewed. It is concluded that RP have potential to promote the insertion of environmental variable in civil construction sector, however, there are many barriers. These include the lack of quality programs for recycled aggregates, the use of inefficient production methods, low labor qualification, lack of clarification to the market and absence of laws that encourage the use of waste in construction sites.
