  • Descrição: This work has as its backdrop the question of development and reactivation of the shipbuilding industry in Brazil. Precisely, the object of this study is the Polo Naval and Oshore of Rio Grande/RS. The construction of the Polo Naval and Oshore began in august 2006, with the dry dock installation works. In 2007, the shipping industry was included in the objectives of the Growth Acceleration Program of the Federal Government, with the role of renewing the eet of Transpetro, which started to prioritize the procurement of large tankers for Brazilian shipyards. The Naval Pole was inaugurated in 2010, and its structure currently comprises three shipyards (ERG 1, 2 and Honorio Bicalho). With a methodology that involved conducting exploratory interviews, guided visit to a shipyard, participation in lecture, and data from General Register of Employed and Unemployed Persons and the List of Social Information, we analyze the pattern of hiring the work force during the years 2013 and 2014. We identied high turnover and exible forms of employment and the consequences for workers from working dynamic that was established in Polo.
