Descrição: The purpose of this article is to discuss the important theoretical debate, that has been taking place in Germany, about the concept and problems of "sustained development". The author's main focus is centered on the North-South dimension of the environmental topic. The author analyses the criticism of the Brundtland Comission's report Our Common Future, as well as the perspectives adopted by neoliberal, neo-keynesian and radical environmentalist authors. After confronting the communicative and the systematic ecological rationalities, the article concludes emphasizing the deficit of empirical researches in this field. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
