  • Descrição: In Brazil, it is estimated that 98% of the childbirths take place in a hospital environment. Even though the movement of childbirth humanization has gained ground in the home birth assistance, the setting is different when we talk about hospital births, since the hospital environment is where the alarming c-section rates (80% in the private sector and 35% in the public sector) and high rates of interventions take place. This article seeks, from a autoethnographic reflection, situate the setting in hospital birth assistance in Maceio--Alagoas. The childbirth planning, pre-natal exams, contact with obstetricians, nurses and doulas up to the end will be compared to the construction of an escape route in a hostile environment. The autoethnography challenges formal aspects of how we elaborate our standpoint as researchers and allows us to explore the emotion from a personal experience and the catharsis as an intrinsic part of the social research. Not silencing violence is used here as tool to think some of the challenges of adhering to good practices and the elaboration of a transforming criticism in childbirth assistance.
