Descrição: The dossier that the reader has in hand aims to disseminate a new crop of studies on the history of urbanization, nine years after the publication of the dossier “Paths of the history of urbanization in colony Brazil” in volume 20, number 1, of the Annals of the Museum Paulista, 2012, carried out under my coordination. The challenge of exploring a Brazil of continental dimensions imposes, above all, a collective effort to deconstruct the narratives and commonplaces that ended up acquiring historiographical status. Our eyes, addicted to certain stereotypes, are clouded by recent researches, which bring to light new territorialities with very wide ramifications. Disconnected from each other and without necessarily being aware of it, these studies shed light on empirical evidence that deserves debate because of their originality and for converging on a necessary reinterpretation of Brazil as a whole, including its interfaces with Spanish America and other continents.
