  • Descrição: The Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL) uses projects to achieve its institutional objectives. It is evident, therefore, the need to mature this competence and establish an effective project management methodology. Thus, this research aimed to assess the maturity of UFAL's organizational capacity in managing projects using the Prado-MMGP methodology, indicating where to invest in order to obtain better results. The theoretical contribution of this research is due to being the first work in the university context to make use of this tool, which constitutes a gap to be explored, in addition to serving as an incentive for the adoption of this methodology by other Higher Education Institutions. The research is classified as a descriptive case study with a quantitative approach based on a survey. The survey was carried out by the Dean of Institutional Management (Proginst), the Information Technology Center (NTI) and the Infrastructure Superintendence (Sinfra) located on the Maceió and Arapiraca campuses. The results show that the sectors with the best evaluation in project management are NTI Arapiraca, followed by Sinfra, NTI Maceió and Proginst. Initial efforts were identified, but without an institutionalized methodology. The organization's final score was 1.64 on an ordinal scale of 1 to 5, classifying it as a level 2 maturity, which indicates that one should invest in training, in the implementation of a computerized platform and in the standardization of its practices.
