  • Descrição: The adopted Trimm and Fill test is not recommended by the Cochrane Collaboration2 because it takes into account publication bias only and has a poor performance in the presence of heterogeneity.4 When reporting odds ratio, Peters' test has lower type I error rates and might be more appropriate than Egger's test.5 Figures 2 and 4 report event rates in patients without and with carotid bruits, but no proper test of interaction was done to assess the significance of any difference between these subgroups. The lack of adjustment for confounders of event rates estimates and the heterogeneity of the study population, with some patients having established coronary heart disease while others being free of disease, could affect the presence and magnitude of the cardiovascular prognostic value of carotid bruits.
