  • Descrição: Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyse the morphology of mouse mesometrial decidua (MD) from day 6 to 8 of pregnancy (dop). Methods & Results: Female Swiss mice were anesthesized, perfused with Karnovsky fixative solution and sacrificed on the 6th, 7th and 8th dop. Implantation sites were dissected and processed for transmission electron microscopy. On the 6th dop, the mesometrial stroma (MS) is mainly composed of fibroblasts, pre-decidual cells (PD) and, some decidualized cells close to the mesometrial chamber. These cells are elongated, juxtaposed and posses two large euchromatic nuclei. Proliferation of endothelial cells and stromal cells are often seen near to the mesometrial chamber, where macrophages and uterine natural killer (uNK) cells are also frequent. Decidual reaction advances toward mesometrial extremity on the 7th dop, but it is not as prominent as those observed for antimesometrial decidua. Some epithelial cells become round-shaped and detach from uterine epithelium (UE). Mesometrial and pre-decidual blood vessels become numerous and wider, more mitotic figures and uNK are seen at PD region. The MS around UE is completely decidualized on the 8th dop, and the blood vessels are even wider. MS is composed mainly by PD and uNK cells associated to blood vessels and cells in division concentrate near to the non-decidualized region. Conclusion: Probably, the slow decidualization process and the angiogenesis that
happens at mesometrial region contribute to a better strategy for placentation
