Descrição:
There is a considerable concern over rising levels of organic pollutants in effluents from wastewater plants. Traditional wastewater treatment processes are not sufficient to adequately reduce the concentration of pollutants in the wastewater stream. As a result, the final effluent usually contains significant amounts of organic pollutants. Tertiary treatment consists of processes designed to remove pollutants not adequately removed by traditional methods and thus achieve higher effluent quality. Conventional tertiary treatment processes include adsorption on activated carbon, ion exchange and chemical oxidation. These processes are expensive and it is beneficial to use low cost, naturally occurring adsorbents in the removal of pollutants from wastewater effluents. This study examine
