  • Descrição: The Palaces of Gaspare Sersale (1493) and Pompeo Sersale (1592) in Cosenza: presence, permanence and evolution in architec- tural language between the 15thand 16thcenturies The characterization of architectural language in noble residential buildings in Calabria between the 15th and 16th centuries cannot be imme- diately classified, since there is no representative sample of models. This absence is partly attributable to the conditions of the political and social context of the Calabrian territory, but also due to the inevitable transformation of architectural complexes over the centuries, which have often left traces of a memory that, in most cases, even any intensive search for documents fails to give a complete picture. In this context, two buildings built in Cosenza are highly representative: the palace of Gaspare Sersale of 1493, and the other of his descendant, Pompeo, built in 1592. A comparative study of the two preserved facades documents the slow passage among the late 15th century tradition acquired through the Nea- politan mediation, and the acquisition of a new sensibility, which connotes civil architecture in Calabria in the modern age.
