Descrição:
Intimate partner violence continues to be a source of concern for adolescents in dating relationships. The researcher has shown that the number of incidents of adolescent intimate partner violence (IPV) has remained consistent over the past decade. In studies conducted in 1986-1985, researchers found that between 19-38% of teenagers experienced some form of physical violence in dating relationships. In more recent study conduct in 2014, Breiding and colleagues found the prevalence rate for any form of IPV for victims before the age of 18 to range from 14.1% to 23.2% for males and females, respectively. To-date, there have been multiple prevention and reduction programs introduced to address the growing concern for adolescent IPV. However, no program has been successful at addressing all levels (mild, moderate, severe) for all forms of adolescent dating violence. The most successful program introduced by Foshee et al., (1996) was called the Safe Dates Project, that was aimed at taking a community and school-based approach to addressing adolescent IPV. However, the program was shown not to have an effect on psychological abuse victimization and mildly effective at reducing physical abuse victimization. Utilizing the strategies outlined by Foshee's Safe Dates Project along with additional aspects from other moderately successful prevention programs, I was able to create a program that attempts to address adolescent dating violence in a more holistic manner. The Prevention through Safe Self-Efficacy program seeks to not only address external mediators and moderators but also to focus on internal aspects that have the potential to sustain an adolescent's engagement in intimate partner relationship violence.
