Descrição:
This year's entertainment landscape is riddled with a strong sense of deja vu as movie studios are still beset with a case of sequel-itis that began last summer. Studios have unspooled a slew of blockbuster movies with recognizable brand names on their slates. And this year's crop appears to be scoring better than last year's in at least one respect: Critical acclaim, which was mostly absent from second and third installments of prior hits. In terms of overall box office receipts to date, four films, Spider-Man ($403.7 million); Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers ($338.9 million); Star Wars 2 ($310.6 million), and Warner Bros.' Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets ($261.9 million) are already among the top 20 films of all time. All told, it is not a bad time to be in the movie business, compared with other sectors. In times of conflict, consumers crave catharsis in comedy, and distraction in drama; they revel in drowning their sorrows with artificially flavored popcorn butter.
