  • Descrição: Polymeric fibres are usually added to castables to lower the risk of explosion during drying. The mechanism is temperature activated and is associated with physicochemical changes in the polymeric material that leave permeable channels in the castable structure. The permeability of two ultralow cement castable formulations, designed with two distinct Andreasen's particle size distribution (PSD) coefficient values (q = 0.21 and 0.26) and containing polypropylene fibres of various lengths, was correlated to the distance between the permeable paths to identify the minimum fibre length required to promote a desired permeability increase. 9 refs.
