Descrição:
A Light Medium Tactical Vehicle (LMTV) was tested on a chassis dynamometer at the US Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) test labs from the months of August through October of 1998. The purpose was to determine the strains and accelerations in the driveline system and to determine the effect of different driveline configurations on these values. Tested variations included the OEM 3.5 inch diameter rear driveshaft, a larger 4 inch diameter (Al) rear driveshaft, a straightened and balanced OEM driveshaft and a Michigan Scientific Driveshaft modified to eliminate hinging. Other driveline changes included replacing the OEM flywheel with a nodular iron version an replacing the yokes utilizing straps, to hold in the driveshafts to full rounds yokes, and lastly using nylon versus metal thrust washers in the universal joint end caps. Results showed that the replacement components, namely the 4 inch diameter driveshaft with nylon thrust washer and full round yokes, and the nodular iron flywheel housing, yielded more favorable results than the original equipment.
