  • Descrição: Describes the increasing political conflict affecting policies on aging, & the emerging debates in the politics of aging. It is argued that proposals for major changes in social programs are being generated without much attention to the implications for older people, particularly the poorest. Important choices for the old-age interest groups to make regarding the substance of their positions, the formation of strategic alliances, & their political tactics are described. The American Assoc for Retired Persons is discussed as a special case, seen as having greater potential for exercising political influence than other groups. Reform proposals & supported positions of Congress & special interest groups are described. The possibility of old-age & health care interests linking to impact reforms is raised. 46 References. M.
