  • Descrição: suicide mortality rates have increased over last years in European countries. The aim of this study is to describe the mortality time trends for suicide in the País Valenciano between 1976-90. from vital statistics data trends for suicide (E950-959 9th ICD) rates and adjusted-rates were analysed. A Poisson regression model was fit to analyse trends. suicide rates have increased for both sexes during the period up to 13.8 per 100,000 in males and 4.6 per 100,000 in females, being male rates three times females rates. The most important changes have been observed in the strong increase of male rates for age 15-24 who increased three times their rates. In women the higher increase belongs to age older than 65 years. the mortality increase in young male and in older remarks the need of interventions in order to prevent this important Public Health problem.
