Descrição:
Ilisagvik College's "tikisaksraq," or vision, is as follows: "Ikayuutauluta Nunaaqqiñun Suannaktaaglugit IIisagnikunlu Suragallasiñikunlu"--to help build strong communities through education and training. The "sivuniq", or mission, is to provide quality post-secondary academic, vocational, and technical education in a learning environment that perpetuates and strengthens Iñupiaq culture, language, values, and traditions. The college is dedicated to serving their students and developing a well-educated and trained workforce that meets the human resource needs of North Slope employers and the State of Alaska. With contributions from companies like ConocoPhillips, Alaska's only tribal college gives students the skills necessary to find jobs in the Arctic oil fields. In this article, the author briefly looks back at the history oil and the Inupiaq and discusses the partnership with ConocoPhillips.
