Descrição:
Mafic igneous, pelitic metasediments, and quartzo-feldspathic rocks were metamorphosed in the range from greenschist to lower almandine-amphibolite facies; chlorite-biotite, garnet, chloritoid, and staurolite zones are recognized. Changes in assemblages with grade are depicted by equations and petrographic diagrams, and assemblages are classified into subfacies. Fabric studies indicate three events—an early plastic deformation with development of low grade assemblages followed by a static environment and high grade phases, and finally a late brittle deformation with minor retrograde effects. Partitioning of various trace elements among coexisting phases is discussed. Pyrrhotite compositions suggest metamorphic temperatures of 400°C-570°C for the higher grade rocks, and a gradient of 75°C-150°C per km. Sources of thermal energy are considered. The age of the metamorphism was about 1,600 m.y. by radiometric dating.
