  • Descrição: There is an “urgent” need to change the diversity of the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforces that are currently highly unrepresentative of some parts of the population, MPs have been told. Freeman highlighted the STEM Ambassador programme—a voluntary role model scheme that enables people with STEM skills from business, industry, and academia to support work done by teachers to encourage young people to go into STEM. MPs asked fellow witness Ottoline Leyser, chief executive of UK Research and Innovation—the government body that funds and fosters research and development—how the lack of diversity in STEM could be tackled.
