Título:
Die Versprachlichung des Sakralen und die Entsprachlichung der Ökonomie
Autor:
Berger, Johannes
The distinction between "system" and "life-world" is decisive for Habermas' theory of communicative action. Habermas uses this distinction in two ways: on the one hand to formulate the evolutionary idea that in the progress of history, rationalization of "life-world" entails rationalization of the "system"; on the other hand to form the starting point of a critical analysis of "late capitalism": communicative action is endangered by the expansion of "system-rationality". The paper criticizes this construction on three grounds: types of action cannot be assigned solely to particular realms of action (i.e., "system" or "life-world"); the theory of communicative action neglects the analysis of inner-systemic tensions; and life-world orientations are spreading in the system just as systemic orientations are spreading in the life-world.
