Descrição: The author traces the history of the Pera Palace Hotel in Istanbul, Turkey, and examines its recent restoration. It was designed by Alexandre Vallaury and construction took place from 1892-1895. During World War II, it became a crucial focus of life in the city, but after World War II its glamor began to dissipate. In 1994, it was purchased by the state and transferred to the Ministry of Culture. It was fully restored and reopened in September 2010.
