  • Descrição: In the current paper, an attempt is made to synthesize and classify the research findings related to water state changes and the water cycle in the thinking of 3–8-year-old children. This type of findings often emerges through research carried out in contexts with different scientific orientations, such as Educational Sciences, Psychology, and Science Education, which constitute a diversity that does not favour holistic approaches. Along this line, the above-mentioned research field is classified into two distinct categories: the first one is dominated by the study of water state changes as thermal phenomena, and the second one by the study of the wider water cycle in nature. It seems, that children could approach water state changes and the water cycle in nature even at an early age. Finally, open research topics and educational perspectives in the field of Early Childhood Science Education are discussed.
