  • Descrição: This article aims to present family farming as a substantial alternative in the processes of generating food security alongside populations in situations of social fragility and food insecurity on the planet. For the construction of this argument, the text was initially based on the objectives of the Contemporary Agrarian Law, a branch linked to the struggles for achieving the rights provided in the Federal Constitution and in infra-constitutional texts, in particular the carrying out of fundamental rights intertwined with the food security agenda, which brings to the debate issues such as productive capacity, availability and quality of food. The contraposition between these two objectives has made it possible to show that the currently existing productivist-technological model follows the logic of conservative modernization implemented in the 1960s, whose proposal was to modernize production methods to increase the volume produced, and thus face the possible shortage of food pointed out by Malthus, represented a mere illusion and was never effective in reducing hunger on the planet. Finally, it was discussed how family farming is responsible for the production of basic foods consumed in Brazil, such as rice, beans, corn, vegetables, among others and, for this reason, the importance of family farming to the daily diet of Brazilians was highlighted, as this family model is able to offer products with superior quality, which are produced within a regional sphere, and often without the high quantities of chemicals used in extensive cropping fields, demonstrating their harmony between family farming and the Food and Nutrition Security.
