  • Descrição: This article presents a work model for dialogue between groups in conflict, based on a combination of the classic “contact approach” for conflict resolution and a newer approach that focuses on the recognition of the collective narrative of the other. This model combines lectures, reading materials, study tours, and group processing sessions composed of representatives of the two groups in conflict. The study examined a group of 15 students—nine Jews and six Arabs—who participated in a dialogue group process that followed this model as a part of a semester-long course. The research strategy was conceived as a “case study,” and the methodology was qualitative. The research included observations, semistructured interviews, and analysis of students' written reflections. A visual medium from art-based research was introduced in the interviews. The study examined the proposed model through four categories: the depth of the discourse, the issue of confrontation, the issue of generalization, and various needs of the minority and majority groups. The findings show that this model provides an effective basis to address those issues and establishes a platform for deep and meaningful dialogue between groups in conflict. At the same time, this research finds important imbalances between the Jewish majority group and the Arab minority group in terms of participants' use of the shared space. This was expressed, in part, by the creation of the informal unilateral Arab group meetings that took place after the official joint dialogue meetings. Limitations and suggestions for future research are discussed.
