  • Descrição: ACM97: The Next 50 Years of Computing was held March 3-5, 1997 and incorporated a professional conference where 1,800 attendees gathered to listen to key technologists share their visions of the future. The Expo, which was free and open to the public, drew over 26,000 visitors, including several busloads of school children. These events deeply engraved ACM's position as the premier computing society and as a force for making a real imprint on the future. The 16 featured commentators represented some of the most eloquent and accomplished pioneers in their respective fields. ACM97 also marked the debut of Beyond Calculation: The Next 50 Years of Computing, edited by Peter J. Denning and ACM97 chair Robert M. Metcalf. The book was called the conference's most memorable achievement by The New York Times.
