  • Descrição: Perhaps, most surprisingly, one of the 7 selected methods [10] is a conference presentation, thus not meeting the authors own requirement of being published in a peer-reviewed journal as an original research article – or found in reference books on skeletal and dental development or sub-adult osteology. Perhaps one of the greatest concerns with Corron and co-workers’ [1] criteria for choosing juvenile age estimation methods is the choice to classify as valid only those studies that included a sample size of 200 or more (the sample size recommended parameter). [17] do not provide data about sample size for age or sex in their study (one of the recommended parameters), and instead show a cumulative distribution plot for males and females that seem to differ by as much as 10%. Ultimately, it is surprising to see that 3 methods in the list of 7 are authored by Corron and co-workers and by some of Corron's co-authors. Since this list of 7 includes two studies that are not age estimation methods [14,19], this reduces the list to 5 valid or “best” methods.
