  • Descrição: When Gary asked me to write an article about my work for JMA, I was both honored and a little intimidated. I had written artist's statements over the years but nothing that had to go through the rigorous review process of an academic journal. The editor was patient and helped me publish a description of my artistic goals that still serves me: I believe there is an aesthetic component to mathematics. It is my intent as an artist to create a visual link between these aesthetic qualities and artistic expression. The grace and beauty I find in mathematics is expressed through the symmetries, expressions, and proportions in my art (1) The longer I have been active in the math art community, the more I feel that the sentiments expressed in this statement are shared by other artists: we all strive to express the beauty of mathematics in our own way.
