Título:
Solskjerming og dagslys i skolebygg : en sammenligningsstudie

Descrição:
This master thesis reviews daylight conditions in schools with different types of sun shielding. Daylight affects several factors in a student’s everyday life. This includes both the student’s health and well-being as well as their general progression in school. Several comprehensive studies confirm this. A former master thesis presented the daylight conditions at Siggerud School, a school with mechanical screens. The results showed that the requirements were not satisfied, when sunscreens were deployed. As this type of sun shielding also can be difficult to control, it was desirable to examine a school with fixed sun shielding, to find if one of the two is a better choice in future projects. To examine this, a study has been done to compare the daylight conditions at Siggerud School with the conditions at another school that in contrast to Siggerud, has fixed sun shielding. The second school, Bjørlien School, was chosen as a case-study in this thesis, primarily because of the fixed sun shielding. To map out the daylight conditions, a number of measurements were carried out in four different classrooms. Furthermore, two of these were considered comparable with two of the classrooms that were examined at Siggerud. These classrooms are evaluated and compared to each other. In addition, the requirements of an average daylight factor (DF) of 2% has been evaluated, as well as the 10%-rule, and at last if SINTEF's recommended illuminance levels are fulfilled. The results show that the average DF, in all the four classrooms considered at Bjørlien School, were satisfied. However, the recommended illuminance levels were too low on several desks. This was particularly evident in the classroom facing north-east. The opposite phenomena were found at Siggerud School. The requirements of average DF were rarely fulfilled in any classrooms. On the opposite hand, the recommended illuminance levels in the same classrooms, were satisfied. A possible reason for this, may be the orientation of the classroom, or a changing reflection from both the terrain around the schools, and the furniture inside the classrooms. The results did not give an unambiguous answer to whether fixed sun shielding should be chosen over screens in future projects. However, the daylight conditions at Bjørlien are more stable than at Siggerud. Also, the user interface for the sun shielding at Bjørlien is considerably better than the sun shielding at Siggerud. These are both arguments in favor of the solution chosen at Bjørlien.
