  • Descrição: Future Ru industr development is vital to Kenya's econ emancipation, for, apart from possible mineral detection & better development of the tourist industry, Kenya's chief econ base will continue to be agri. Kenya's agri'al land is classified, indexed, & summarized on the basis of its agri'al potential. The current general industr location pattern is presented & quantitatively classified, & it is noted that the majority of the leading industr centers are located within the high potential agri'al land zone. 2 indices are developed to analyze the concentration of manufactural employment: (1) the location quotient which measures the degree to which a specific industr unit has more or less than its share of any given group of mfg (ie, agri'al processing industries); & (2) the index of industr concentration, which measures the degree to which an industr activity is concentrated in a given area unit, be it a province, a district, or an Ur unit. It is concluded from a brief study using these indices that Kenya's industr location is unbalanced, since the mfg industries are considerably centralized in (a) 6 industr units at district level, & (b) 4 industr units at provincial level. The need for comprehensive res into ways & means of rectifying this unbalanced set-up is affirmed, & a possible line of procedure suggested, based on Fomento's approach to industr decentralization, in which gov grants, loans, & tax-exemptions would be used as incentives to stimulate to varying degrees the establishment of industry. 6 Maps, 5 Appendices, & a Bibliog.
