  • Descrição: The research outlined here is part of the debate of the social production of space and discusses the incorporation of gated communities in the urban space. These forms of housing, in the context of contemporary urbanization, function as control areas and city fragmentation and furthermore, secrete and separate the within the cities space. The gated community is one of the new ways of living of the middle and upper classes, being called "luxury gated community" to represent the constructive innovations that transform the urban morphology in selective forms of housing. Inspired by the Edge city North American, have become a standard widespread in Latin America and Brazil, both in the metropolises, as in medium-sized cities, from the decade 1960. In Belem do Para, there is the proliferation, not only in morphology, as in the urban content of this Amazonian metropolis, especially in its main areas of expansion : BR-316 highway and Avenue Augusto Montenegro.
