Descrição: There is no doubt that the best of today's early music specialists have the technical prowess to perform the greatest works of the baroque repertory to a standard that possibly exceeds the performances of the 17th and 18th centuries. But I have to wonder whether we moderns (or post-moderns) have the patience for this music. The St Matthew Passion comes from a social and ecclesiastical culture where even a typical Sunday morning church service went on for hours and hours.
