  • Descrição: In psychodynamic–interpersonal therapy, inquiry encourages a patient to tell their personal story. This story will include plausible reasons for the patient's difficulties, including the origins of these difficulties and current factors that they believe cause their difficulties. Dynamic therapists assume that some of those beliefs cause suffering and that the patient cannot understand how this occurs. This unfortunate situation occurs partly because the patient lacks awareness of sufficient details to understand why they are trapped in this particular story—or, sometimes, even that there is a story—so they continue to participate in it. This chapter focuses on three inquiry strategies that facilitate the elaboration of the patient's personal, often unarticulated story. The trainee should improvise a response to each patient description using the following skill criteria. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved) (Source: chapter)
