  • Descrição: A washer design has been developed for the estimation of axial force in bolted joints. The technique measures the elastic and plastic deformations of the micro-asperities on the contact surface of the washer itself. Effects of surface roughness, hardness, and Young's modulus of the material on the deformation characteristics of the washer were measured experimentally. Washers were made of Al--Mg--Si alloy (A6063), Cu--Zn--Pb alloy, and a 0.45 carbon steel and results indicate that a suitable material exists for all conditions of loading.
