Descrição: Determines whether physicians' (MDs') perceptions of their patients' wishes regarding life-sustaining treatment may be influenced by the MDs' self-preferences in the same circumstances. Comparisons were made of responses to interviews of 36 patients with life-threatening illnesses in San Diego, CA, & 16 MDs regarding treatment preferences. There was poor correspondence between patient's choice for self & MD's predictions of their patient's choice. In contrast, there was strong correspondence between MD's prediction of patient's choice & MD's choices for self. It is suggested that MDs' own preferences may be biasing their notion of what their patients want. 3 Tables. Modified AA
