Descrição: This paper reviews the main arguments used to justify and legitimize contract archaeology worldwide. By seeing them contextually, however, those arguments are stripped bare, unveiling their articulation with the logic of modernity and capitalism. The paper examines them in the specific case of Brazil, only to draw general conclusions thereafter.
