  • Descrição: Exploding Myths of Female Desire for the TwentyFirst Century: This abstract explores the changing resonances of the myth of the bacchantes in literary rewritings and its potential to challenge heteronormative rules associated with female and samesex desire. It discusses Marcel Proust's novel "In Search of Lost Time" and its juxtaposition of ancient and modern to reveal unexpected truths. It also examines Euripides' play "The Bacchae" and its portrayal of female desire and power. The abstract then introduces Cline Minard's novella "Les Bacchantes" as a reimagining of the bacchantes myth, where three women occupy a secure bunker and challenge patriarchal and heteronormative constraints. The novella subverts the original myth by having the women willingly locked inside the bunker and ultimately destroying it from within. The abstract concludes by highlighting the potential of these rewritings to challenge conventional constructions of power and desire.
