  • Descrição: These are reflections on sociol as a profession, prompted b3 the fact that an increasing number of Poles call themselves 'sociol'ts!' This is largely due to the growing practical importance of the work of Polish sociol'ts. Their work is surveyed, with reference to A. Sarapata (res on rapid turnover of miners' teams); Anna Pawelczynska (PO Studies Center); S. Nowakowsk (migration to Polish Western territories), & many others who helped to produce practical improvements. The sociol'st is directly involved in the making of a new type of humanity in socialist Poland; he has a humanist role. But he also must be a man involved in practical work, & his role here tends to be over- or underestimated by men in more practical professions. He cannot avoid the duty of theoretical thinking-an area which Polish students of sociol find less interesting than empirical studies. Marxist thought, which underlies the socialist pol'al takeover, must also underlie the more peaceful processes of creating a socialist society-in which sociol'ts must play an active part. I. Langnas.
