  • Descrição: The optimal performance parameters of a Miller heat-engine have been discussed in detail by using finite-time thermodynamics. The normalized net-work output and normalized thermal efficiency are obtained by introducing the compression ratio, the expansion–compression ratio and the specific heat ratio. The results show that, throughout the working range of the cycle, there is a maximum net-work output during the ranges of compression ratio and specific heat ratio, while the net-work output increases with increasing the expansion–compression ratio and the maximum cycle temperature ratio. The results also show that, throughout the working range of the cycle, the thermal efficiency increases with increasing the compression ratio, the expansion–compression ratio and the specific heat ratio, while the thermal efficiency increases with increasing the maximum cycle temperature ratio. The results obtained in this paper may provide guidance for the design of practical Miller engines.
