  • Descrição: It is found that there have been dualities in the history of science since the Ancient Greek. One of the most important dualities is determinism-free will debate. As any other debate in the philosophy of science, determinism-free will debate was tried to be understood and solved. The Roy Bhaskar's critical realism perspective is still the most significant challenge to deal with the dualities. Critical realism asserts the realist philosophy of science in the social science while avoiding amprisizm and Humean causality of positivism, relativity of postmodernism. In this study, first it is presented the different perspectives on the determinism-free will duality in the social science and then discussed the arguments on these perspectives to deal with the duality. It is concluded with the discussion of why and how the critical realism of Bhaskar solve this duality. Adapted from the source document.
