  • Descrição: The article treats about female participation in political parties in democratic nations, particularly in Brazil. It ranges from women's emancipation in the last two centuries to nowadays, passing through social ascension, emphasizing the increasing role in the politics of the country, being an elector or a candidate. Legally there is no gender difference anymore concerning the rights women possess by comparing to men's ones; though their participation in elections is not yet satisfactory, as just a few of them, when candidates, are elected. The article, then, brings affirmative actions as a way to promote material equality, by including more women in Parliaments. The methods in the text are the inductive, deductive, regressive analytical and bibliography.
