  • Descrição: For some mineral collectors, mining statues have it all. When displayed with specimens, they are scene-setting, providing authenticity, charm, and a historical element that spans centuries, giving a visual record of mining at a particular time. Here, Huizing and Neumeier discuss mining sculpture as fine art. There are different types of cast sculptures. They may be in the form of freestanding statues, reliefs, or figurines. Figurines and freestanding statues are traditionally created with a cast-in-place base (a plinth in art-world terminology) that becomes part of the overall artistic design. The first known porcelain mining statue, a group of miners playing instruments, dates to 1725-1730.
