Descrição: Fifty million Brazilians live below the poverty line, including twenty-two million who are indigent. Many of these people, who effectively have no rights, who cannot afford food, shelter, clothing, electricity, or clean water, are compelled to engage in illegal activities in order to survive. The article argues that a sense of justice requires that these citizens be given the right to work. In making this argument, the article explores topics such as the democratization of justice and the law, the origins of the labor crisis, political reasons for a lack of investment, structural changes in the national power paradigm, changes in individual rights, and reform of the rights of workers.
