  • Descrição: Ganglion cell death is implicated in several optic neuropathies, most commonly, glaucoma. Neuroprotective therapies have the potential to halt RGC loss through promoting cell survival. Mechanisms by which this may occur have been well‐researched over the years, and include neuroprotection. However, there until recently there were few methods of assessing the target organ – the ganglion cell. New and promising approaches to assessing the health and sicknes of retinal ganglion cells, including DARC, will be discussed. With these advances, it may be possible for the next wave of new glaucoma treatments in clinic to be assessed with theses promising biomarkers and surrogate endpoints.
