  • Descrição: The article addresses women's participation in productive backyards in settlements in the Central Region of Sao Paulo, highlighting their importance as areas of resistance to monoculture. These backyards not only symbolize freedom, but also reduced to food security and agroecological transition. Using Snowball methodology and field diary, the study highlights the positive effects of backyards on family life and the quality of life of the settlers, with an emphasis on women's work. It turns out that backyards offer a variety of foods, promoting local and cultural practices. Women also play a crucial role in selling backyard products, contributing to family income and food sovereignty. Furthermore, the preference for natural medicines grown on farms strengthens community ties and improves quality of life. In short, backyards are spaces for female empowerment, appreciation of traditional practices and strengthening of rural areas. These spaces are essential for a healthy and balanced life, both for families and the environment.
