  • Description: As a branch of quantum information technology, quantum communication technologies hold significant value for enhancing communication security in future substations. This paper delves into the current development status and engineering feasibility of various quantum communication technologies. A cryptographic comparison between traditional asymmetric key encryption systems and quantum key distribution (QKD) encryption systems is presented. The technical characteristics of three communication architectures and the generalizability of their engineering applications are analyzed. The potential application scenarios of quantum communication technologies in substations are outlined, along with suggestions for addressing challenges encountered in their application.
